Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in Public Health?
Applications are invited from trainee doctors who have recently completed or about to finish Core Medical Training or equivalent to apply for the position of Clinical Fellow in Public Health (Health Protection).
Health Protection is one of the three 'domains' of public health (health protection, health improvement and healthcare public health) and is responsible for the investigation and management of communicable diseases and environmental hazards in order to protect population health.
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed considerable pressures on many services including that of NHS Board Health Protection Teams (HPTs). The post holder will work in conjunction with the Health Protection Team primarily to support NHS Forth Valley’s COVID-19 response and to undertake other HPT duties as required. However, as the pandemic evolves there will be opportunity to work across the wider Public Health department.
The training needs of the successful candidate will be considered, for example, by incorporating career development in research, education or leadership projects in line with the Directorate objectives. The successful candidate will also benefit from a named clinical and educational supervisor. Applications are invited for individuals at ST1 level or above.
The Public Health department serves the population and focuses on the prevention of ill health, promotion of healthy lifestyles and provision of quality health care services. The post holder will work primarily within Health Protection working alongside a multidisciplinary team which includes Consultants in Public Health / Public Health Medicine, Health Protection Nurses and Specialist Registrars in Public Health. You will also work closely with the local Test and Protect contact tracing team who are also part of the Public Health Directorate.
As a member of the Health Protection Team the successful candidate will use evidence based knowledge and best practice to support all aspects of COVID-19 management, including the management of individual cases, risk assessment and contribution to incident / outbreak management. This service is provided across community and public health settings to a wide range of professional and non-professional staff from NHS and non-NHS organisations and members of the public within Forth Valley
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to resilience support for the Health Protection Team.
There is no acute medicine or on-call commitment with this post. If the successful candidate wishes to join the staff bank, locum opportunities within Forth Valley may be available.
The appointment will be on a full-time basis and remuneration will be determined by the pay and conditions of hospital medical and dental staff (NHS Circular: PCS (DD) 2021/02).
You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues.
