Health Improvement Coordinator (Tobacco Control)

Job description

Medway Council has an exciting opportunity for a Health Improvement Coordinator within the Public Health Team.  The successful candidate will work on projects that help protect people from the harms of tobacco.

This role provides variety as the postholder will have opportunities to work with both members of the public and partner organisations such universities, schools, colleges, and law enforcement agencies.    

The ideal candidate will be approachable and a good listener.  There will be a need to work closely with members of the public who want to adopt healthier lifestyles but may struggle to achieve this.  Therefore, the ability to be patient and offer encouragement is an important part of this role.  Previous experience of working with people to help them achieve goals is an advantage.

The postholder will be required to coordinate and support on a variety of tobacco control activities and communications including setting up meetings, monitoring social media activity, helping to design and deliver training and representing the service at public facing promotional events designed to raise awareness.

This is a permanent position and working hours will include occasional shifts outside of 9am – 5pm and may include some Saturdays. A full, clean driving licence and access to your own car is essential.

Experience in smoking cessation is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.
