Principal Public Health Practitioner

Job description

Healthy Weight Healthy Wales – Exciting opportunity to be part of the strategic implementation team

Do you have a passion for the health of our nation? If you are seeking an opportunity as a Principal Public Health Practitioner around the healthy weight agenda, then please read on.

In Wales, we now have an exciting opportunity to tackling obesity across the nation following the publication of the 2019 Welsh Government 2019 Weight: Healthy Wales strategy, including taking forward a whole systems approach to obesity prevention. So we are looking to expand our team of principals within the Health Improvement Division Obesity prevention team, to help implement the strategy

We have ambitious plans to transform the landscape in Wales to increase the proportion of the population who are a healthy weight by developing shared vision and actions with key stakeholders to harness and better mobilise whole system action to tackle the drivers of obesity and overweight in our environment.

We have a commitment to using the best available evidence, harnessing the skills and knowledge of our communities and stakeholders and innovating where necessary to deliver lasting change.

We are looking to welcome you to be a part of a dynamic, friendly team excited to be leading the way on a truly coordinated approach across Wales. We welcome applications from English and Welsh speakers from across the UK and wider. Come and work with others who are passionate about this work, as part of the NHS Wales family, with NHS terms and benefits which may include relocation and associated expenses.

What we are looking for from you

You will be able to demonstrate key public health skills, be able to explain the evidence underpinning our approach, and able to develop purposeful partnerships and strategic coalitions to deliver action.  You will demonstrate a clear understanding of the drivers of overweight and obesity and the potential contribution of the wider system in delivering change.  You will have substantial experience in a specialist public health team and will hold a relevant qualification at Masters level.

Specific duties will be agreed with the Consultant in Public Health upon appointment.

Interviews are scheduled for 2nd Nov 2021
