Principal in Public Health

Job description

We are looking for an experienced senior public health professional to be responsible for leading and bringing together efforts in promoting health and wellbeing, tackling health inequalities and strengthening the capacity across the whole public sector to improve the health of the population.
Leading a range of evidenced based health improvement strategies and the commissioning of various public health services in order to promote health and wellbeing, protect health, encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce health inequalities. The precise portfolio will be agreed on appointment. The post holder will provide leadership and direction to core health improvement staff, the public health business unit and will be the senior public health lead on the prevention agenda and developing a programme of work to deal with the longer-term consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact this has had on inequalities. This will involve having senior strategic leadership for the development of multi-agency plans to help address the longer-term impact of Covid-19.

The role involves working with specific target groups in a range of settings, in partnership with local communities and partner organisations. The post holder will provide specialist advice, training and support on the commissioning and development of public health/health promotion programmes and support community health development approaches to address health inequalities.

The post holder will need excellent communication, presentational and training skills. In addition, you will be experienced in working with a wide range of individuals in many settings. You will be experienced in developing large scale public health programmes with partners and communities and also possess an extensive knowledge of the health inequality agenda.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
