Advanced Health Improvement Specialist (Health Protection)

Job description

We are seeking to appoint a permanent 1.0FTE experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Advanced Health Improvement Specialist to work in our high performing Health Protection team within Public Health. 

The post provides an exciting and unique opportunity to take both a proactive and reactive approach to Public Health work programmes, in partnership with local organisations, including, wider Leeds City Council departments, UKHSA, the WY and Leeds ICB / NHS and third sector partners. 

The proactive approach will require the post holder to support the priorities of the Leeds Health Protection Board. Priorities include: Tuberculosis; promotion of vaccinations and immunisations across the life course; providing public health response and specialist advice to environmental health concerns including air quality and protecting health and reducing harm from cold weather and heat waves.

Secondly, the post holder will also be part of the local reactive response to newly identified outbreaks of concern working with local system partners, recent examples include Covid-19, MPox, Measles, Hepatitis A.  

With the nature of the role, the Health Protection team operate a flexible rota process to cover core hours 9am – 5pm on an agreed number of days per week. The team are based at Merrion House with regular face to face team meetings and support home working (dependent on service needs). 

Public Health is part of Adults and Health Directorate that includes Adult Social Care. Leeds City Council is a large unitary authority with an excellent reputation. The city provides a unique and exciting environment for Public Health work, having a wide inequality in life expectancy and a legacy of strong partnership working across health, social care and third sector partners.

Candidates must have a Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health or Health Promotion.*
