Associate or Senior Editor BMC Global and Public Health

Job description

BMC Global and Public Health is a new broad scope and selective journal from BMC, publishing important advances and influential research and opinion in global and public health, with the goal to further health and well-being and to support the communities around the world. Areas of research interest of the journal include disease epidemiology, health equity, environmental and occupational health, health policy, reproductive health, and social determinants of health. We aim to contribute to advancing health equity and policy making worldwide.We are seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with a strong background in global and public health and a keen interest in open science and open access publishing. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the launch of this new journal and its editorial mission, and to shape its content as part of a new dynamic team of editors.Responsibilities include:Handling original research papers and managing all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.Liaising with editors at other journals across Springer Nature and with experts in the international scientific community.Attending conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with the communities and to represent the journal.Engaging with the Editorial board of the journal.Commissioning and editing of Reviews, Opinions, Comments and other invited articles.Contributing to journal strategy and editorial policies.To be considered for the position, you will have:A PhD, MD, or equivalent experience in global and public health, covering relevant research areas and developments within the scope of the journal.Broad scientific interests and a passion for science.Ability to critically assess manuscripts for scientific impact.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in a team and with colleagues at all levels.Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.Previous editorial experience is required for candidates applying for the Senior Editor positionThis is a full-time permanent position, located in our New York, London, Shanghai or Berlin offices.
