Consultant Epidemiologist

Job description

This consultant role will be key to future pandemic preparedness work through leading the surveillance and situational awareness of emerging influenza viruses, particularly influenza viruses of zoonotic potential. They will lead on advice and support to incident management teams responding to these threats as well as cross-government working.The post holder’s main duties will be to:take a lead role in the surveillance and situational awareness of emerging influenza viruses particularly influenza viruses of zoonotic potential, on a global and national basis, working with other disciplines to lead on public health risk assessment of these threats and associated communicationsliaise with other government departments and agencies as well as colleagues in devolved administrations in relation to situational awareness, public health risk assessment and response adviceprovide specialist input to public health guidance and supporting documents for the topics of emerging influenza, seasonal and pandemic influenza and other respiratory threats as neededprovide specialist public health advice in relation to the investigation and control of incidents of emerging influenza viruses, working with regional health protection teams and other stakeholders where requireddevelop epidemiological response capabilities to respond to emerging influenza virus threatscollaborate with laboratory specialists to prepare for these infection threatsWorking for the OrganisationAt the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) our mission is to provide health security for the nation by protecting from infectious disease and external hazards.
