Consultant in Public Health

Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Public Health or Health Protection to lead, coordinate and deliver high quality public health input to the work of the Regions Programmed Delivery Unit (PDU).
The PDU works alongside and collaboratively with UKHSA Regional teams to provide effective & agile assistance, supports the provision of resilient and efficient health protection services, amplifies best practice, and facilitates quality improvement and innovation. The unit provides programmatic support to workstreams through the coordination of collaborative cross regional working, regular CPD sessions, development of resources and tools and a SharePoint site for the Directorate.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Regional Specialist Services this is a public health leadership role responsible for supporting the work of the PDU and leading cross regional working to ensure amplification and sharing of best practice to improve consistency and quality of regional health protection services.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role involve working to ensure consistency and quality of regional health protection. This is achieved through the leadership of multiple projects and staff to develop and implement innovative system wide solutions to improve health protection services.
The post holder will establish strategic links with relevant stakeholders at a regional and national level to identify future public health challenges to inform PDU work programmes. They will work across UKHSA Directorates, teams (including local Health Protection Teams) and disciplines to support delivery of safe, effective, and efficient health protection services; they will oversee the development and implementation of policies and protocols for a wide range of health protection and other public health issues, they will influence and support the writing, delivery and implementation of guidance, protocols, SOPs and resources and ensure systems are in place for clinical/professional supervision of staff within their scope of responsibility.
