Director of Public Health

Job description

This is an outstanding opportunity to influence, support and lead our Public Health Division and make a positive contribution to the lives of individuals, families and communities in one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities.
Improving the health and wellbeing of the people in Leicester is high on our agenda. Like many large cities, our health challenges cannot be underestimated. Our Health and Wellbeing Board has already made great progress building strong partnerships between the Council, the NHS community and many other partners, bringing together a wide range of expertise to deliver public health services.
We are looking for a passionate, dedicated individual to join us as Director of Public Health, where you will lead the management, development and continuous improvement of Public Health in Leicester.
 
Your role

You will report directly to our Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with the City Mayor, Political Executive, Councillors and the Corporate Management Team to develop a clear, targeted long term strategy, ensuring health and social care, education, housing, jobs and economic policies and infrastructure are developed in ways which deliver maximum improvements in health and wellbeing.
You will act as principal adviser to Leicester’s Health and Wellbeing Board as well as local NHS commissioners and other partnerships.
 
What you’ll need

You will have a successful record of achievement at senior level managing services relating to public health practice, with a range of skills required to work successfully in partnerships and have a sound political awareness and judgement to enable impartial when managing relationships across the council and the NHS. Most of all, you’ll be committed to tackling health inequalities within our city.
You will be registered with (GMC, GDC or UKPHR) and be up to date with CPD requirements. MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment is also a must.
