This is an exciting opportunity to join our Health Protection Nurse Specialist Team as a permanent staff member.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest health board in Scotland and provides a Public Health Protection Service to 1.2 million people. The post holder will be based within the Public Health Protection Unit, West House Gartnaval Royal Hospital Campus.
The post holder, through co-operation with our partner agencies (especially local authorities), will seek to support and protect the local population from both communicable diseases and environmental hazards which could endanger their health. This is done by risk identification investigation and mitigation, thus preventing, controlling or reducing exposure to communicable diseases and environmental hazards and limiting, where possible, the damage to health when such exposures occur.
Therefore, the post holder requires to work closely with the public, Infectious Diseases Unit staff, Infection Prevention and Control Teams, colleagues in pharmacy, Adults and Children’s Immunisation Teams and local partner agencies. Consequently multidisciplinary working is required as is demonstrable experience of working in the community and working with vaccinations.
The Public Health Department operates 7 day working, therefore weekend working is required. Shift pattern is 08:00 – 18:00 across 4 days, Monday to Sunday.
You must be a registered nurse/midwife on the NMC Register, hold relevant first level degree/post-registration qualifications and be able to demonstrate evidence of further professional development. You will be working towards degree/masters level qualification in Public Health/Infection control or similar.
You must have substantial post-registration experience.
