Hampshire County Council

Principal Transport Planner - Transport Planning and Public Health

Job description

Would you like to make a positive difference to the lives of others? Are you interested in how planning and transport can contribute positively to our health? If you are, then this is a unique opportunity to help improve the health of our residents and expand your professional skillset in a large, high performing local authority.
Jointly, the Public Health Team and Hampshire 2050 Directorate are seeking an individual to work across professions and disciplines, to ensure we maximise opportunities to increase physical activity, reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and ensure access for all through our transport network and systems.
We are looking for a motivated, and experienced transport planner with a strategic mindset, with good influencing and collaboration skills and the ability to work with transport and spatial planners within the Council and with our Boroughs and Districts. We will provide training for the right candidate, to enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of public health and how it relates to place-making.
More specifically, you will apply the latest thinking on placemaking to help us develop strategies, policies and funding bids. You will help to develop transport strategies and policies for the future. You will collaborate with colleagues to incorporate health and wellbeing in the commissioning and design of transport schemes to deliver on our radical, place focused, local transport plan.
This opportunity would suit individuals with a broad transport planning and/or place shaping background, including experience of developing strategies and plans, or projects, and directing and coordinating multiple professional disciplines and consultants. Data savvy, you will be keen to deliver transformational place focused change and enable access for all.
In return, we are very supportive and collaborative, offering fantastic development and training opportunities alongside a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working and a local government pension scheme. We are committed to your continued personal development and offer an extensive Benefits Package.
Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this role.
