Public Health Development Officer

Job description

Are you interested in delivering of a range of projects within the Wellbeing and Public Health department?
A vital part of this role is supporting the commissioning of public health programmes while assuring delivery to scale and within agreed time scales.
You’ll lead on deputising for the Public Health Manager Healthy Lives, as appropriate in line with the area of responsibility. You’ll work across the department and will initially lead on the following areas, although will not be constrained to these areas, for the department:

  • Health Improvement- Smoking cessation, Social prescription, NHS health checks
  • Health protection – National screening and immunisation programmes, infectious diseases
    Under the supervision of the Public Health Manager: Healthy Lives, you will support Public Health and other departments in Luton Borough Council and partnership organisations in the management and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
    In this vital role you will seek the best option to manage effective actions to deliver improved health outcomes and reduce inequalities in Luton.

    About you:
    This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
    We are looking for someone who can think and act operationally to evolve programmes in the light of experience and someone with effective interpersonal, presentation, facilitation skills.
    You will have a good level of numeracy, with developed analytical skills using qualitative and quantitative data and ability to communicate information.
    In this role, you will lead by example, role modelling ethics, integrity, impartiality and the elimination of bias and promoting a working environment that supports the Councils values.
    We ask that you have a Degree in a public health related discipline or equivalent experience.
