Public Health Officer Substance Misuse

Job description

Grade: PO5Salary: £44,628 - £47,661Contract: Permanent Closing Date: Sunday, 14th August 2022About the Role:Haringey Council is committed to ensuring residents with substance misuse problems can access effective treatment services, whilst also ensuring that the negative effects of substance misuse on the community are minimalized.The Public Health Team commissions adult prevention and drug and alcohol treatment service in line with the National Drug Strategy. This role will oversee significant new funding aimed at fulfilling the ambitions of the new Drug Strategy.The post holder will be responsible for commissioning, performance management and evaluation of new substance misuse programs, across harm reduction, effective treatment, and recovery. The post will have a key function in ensuring Criminal Justice pathways are working effectively.Main Responsibilities:To work with the Senior Commissioner to oversee contracting and delivery of services delivered by providers to meet the ambitions of the new Drug Strategy and fulfil the requirements of the grant funding.To ensure that services are commissioned and are delivering an increase in the numbers of those with substance misuse issues in the criminal justice system, who access and complete treatment.To work with community safety partners to ensure outreach services are directed towards areas of high substance misuse prevalence.To lead on working with providers, the Council, and the Federation for Health to reduce drug and alcohol related deathsTo increase residents’ knowledge of local service through maximising the use of social media in the marketing of substance misuse services.Ensuring that 100% of services are procured and contracted according to Contract Standing Orders.Ensuring 100% of commissioned services have quarterly monitoring and are clear on KPIs and action plans to address any performance issues.Ensuring new projects provide the financial information required to fulfil the requirements of the grant award.Increasing awareness across health and the council of the ambitions of the National Drug strategy.Increasing equity of access to services through evaluations and Health Equity Audits.Ensuring representation of the public health team locally and nationally to share best practice to inform continuous quality improvement.To deputise for senior members of the team when needed and to contribute to the general work of the team in delivering the public health function and any other duties required which are appropriate to the grade.The post holder is expected to:Adhere to organisational policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies, in particular policies on equalities and safeguarding.Maintain satisfactory personal performance and professional standards and to achieve agreed objectives for their role.Attend mandatory training as identified by the line manager.Participate in the council’s Performance Appraisal Scheme and contribute to their own development.
