Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a 'can do' attitude and enviable reputation. As a council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our 'Fairer Futures for All' promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.
Southwark Council's Public Health Division is advertising for a permanent policy officer role focused on the public mental health and substance misuse portfolio.
The role will involve working across the Public Health Division, wider council, NHS, and community partners in the provision and improvement of public health services.
You must have excellent communication, partnership, analytical and report writing skills. You will be highly organised and be comfortable working within a fast paced and reactive environment, where the focus is on the delivery and management of multiple programmes and projects to high standards within tight timescales. A strong commitment to addressing the wider determinants of health and to tackle health inequalities is expected.
The role, in addition to its specific portfolio, will also be required to support Southwark's Pandemic Response to work with us in tackling COVID-19 and supporting our plans for recovery and renewal.
The role will be accountable to the Public Health Consultant for Behavioural and Digital Public Health, and work in a matrix to the Head of Programmes for Behavioural Health and 0-19 who leads on Mental Health.
Taking care of our residents' mental health and well-being is a priority for Southwark. In this role, you'll work closely with our NHS partners, the Voluntary and Community Sector and our communities to promote mental health and well-being and help provide excellent levels of mental health care.
You will lead on various projects and programmes such as tackling loneliness and social isolation, suicide prevention and general mental health promotion. You will also work closely with Southwark's substance misuse service commissioners, and lead on alcohol prevention strategies and action plans.
