Public Health Practitioner Apprentice

Job description

Are you looking to gain new skills and knowledge from working across Public Health whilst completing a Public Health Practitioner Apprenticeship (BSc Hons) degree?
Are you passionate about reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes for residents of Leicestershire?

About the Role
This is a 3-year fixed term career graded post, where you will study for a degree in Public Health at Coventry University (starting in January 2024) alongside working full time. You will gain the knowledge, skills and experience across the various Public Health services, such as health improvement and health protection, as well as working within the local District and Borough Councils gaining understanding of the wider determinants of health such as education, transport, and housing. 
LCC are looking for a flexible and motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills.
You will be joining a friendly team in a progressive authority that supports the development of its employees through continuous professional development. You will also be offered placements with partner organisations or other teams in the council to expand your skills and knowledge and the opportunity to network with other apprentices in the Council.
The post offers smarter ways of working with a combination of office and home working available. An enhanced DBS check (without barred list check) is required for this post.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have achieved Level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths at Grade C or above and have demonstration of successful study at Level 3 (A Level, Access, BTEC) or equivalent experience, providing evidence of working at a Level 3 study.
  • Have good organisational and project management skills, the ability to work as part of a team as well as under own initiative without close management supervision.
  • Have a knowledge of public health campaigns and health promotion initiatives with the commitment to develop knowledge of Public Health further, as well as the desire to complete the Public Health Practitioner Apprenticeship degree.
  • Have experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships with individuals and organisations from a variety of backgrounds to achieve a common goal. 
  • Have experience of gathering, interpreting and sharing information and knowledge to a variety of audiences using a range of different platforms to suit the needs of the audience.
  • Have competent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Have the ability to travel freely across areas of Leicestershire County and to Coventry University.
