Public Health Practitioner Apprentice

Job description

Are you looking to gain new skills and knowledge from working across Public Health whilst completing a Public Health Practitioner Apprenticeship (BSc Hons) degree? Are you passionate about reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes for residents of Rutland? If so, then this job could be for you!

About the role

This is a 3-year fixed term career graded post. As the Public Health Practitioner Apprentice, you will study for a degree in Public Health at Coventry University (starting in January 2024) whilst working full time. You will gain the knowledge, skills and experience across the various Public Health services, such as health improvement, health protection and gaining understanding of the wider determinants of health such as education, transport, and housing.

You will be joining a friendly team at Rutland County Council, with additional development and support with our wider Public Health Team based with Leicestershire County Council, and other Public Health Apprentices. You will also be offered placements with partner organisations or other teams in the council to expand your skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

  1. To engage fully in the apprenticeship programme meeting all university expectations of the degree programme & passing all academic requirements to fulfil the role of Public Health Practitioner Apprentice.

  2. To support effective joint working and partnerships across public health and local stakeholders to plan & implement public health programmes and services

  3. To support the provision of high-quality public health offers which are efficient, effective, and meet agreed targets and objectives.

  1. To undertake expected duties whilst working on rotation across a range of public health/partner functions in several locations across Rutland.

  2. To support the review of national & local evidence bases identifying the most effective practices and keeping up to date with local data and trends.

  3. To comply with statutory legislation and practice requirements, including Continual Professional Development and mandatory training.

  1. Identifies potential commercial opportunities with customers and suppliers.

  2. Responsible for protecting & managing information securely, and reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies.

  3. To carry out any other duties/requirements relevant to this post.
