Public Health Practitioner Apprentice

About the role
This is a 3 year apprenticeship training programme to become a Public Health Practitioner gaining a BSc in Public Health (Hons) and eligibility to apply to and join the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) 
Term time, you will be learning at the University of the West of England for a proportion of the week and the rest of your time will be spent developing your skills through working on a variety of programme areas within the public health teams undertaking different public health tasks and projects.  
As a Public Health Practitioner Apprentice, you will work in partnership with colleagues in Communities, Public Health, the Council and other organisations to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities in North Somerset. You will also support the planning, delivery and evaluation of public health initiatives.   
You will be based in our Health & Care Public Health Team with opportunities to build your experience and work in specified areas of public health and across portfolio areas in line with the learning on the degree programme and the business need. 
You will work across the three domains of public health to gain a breadth of knowledge

  • Health Improvement 
  • Health Protection & Regulations
  • Health & Care Public Health 
    This opportunity is advertised on a 3 year fixed term basis.
  • A valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role. 
    About you
    We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, is a good team worker, is non-judgemental, has patience, is reliable and trustworthy and interested in public health and wants to develop their knowledge to benefit the public health team and the population of North Somerset 
    You will have the following skills and attributes: 

  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners and evidence of this
  • Experience of partnership working and collaborating
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information to a range of people, including the ability to write reports and provide complex information.
  • Ability to research, gather, analyse and present information in reports.
  • Good organisation and project management skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and adopt an accurate, analytical and methodical approach to work
  • Knowledge and confidence with Microsoft office or equivalent. Including Word and Excel

    Entry requirements for the position 
    112 UCAS tariff points required.  
    (To check UCAS points this link can be used UCAS Tariff Points - Calculate Your Entry Requirements for A levels a total of 112 points can be achieved from 2 x B (40 x 2 points) and 1 x C (32 points) BTEC and other qualifications are counted, and totals can be checked on the calculator) 
    Applicants who do not fit the typical entry requirements will be considered on an individual basis. In this situation evidence of recent study at a suitable, recognised level 3 qualification or equivalent alongside a profile of relevant experience.
    Applicants with a previous degree will be considered on an individual basis.
    For all applicants, Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Grade C/4 or above in maths, or equivalent.

    Please note: We cannot consider qualifications that are not completed with results known by closing date as application for apprenticeship will need to be submitted before Friday 4th August 2023.
