An exciting opportunity has arisen within Bolton to join our Public Health Team as a Public Health Specialist. We are able to offer an 18-month fixed term-contract that is providing cover whilst the substantive post holder is completing a developmental research project.
You will be required to take the lead on developing and implementing a range of Health Improvement Programmes as required to support the delivery of the Public Health Business Plan and support the Bolton 2030 Vision. The role also includes the line management of Public Health Practitioners.
This role requires strong partnership working with Public Health Team members, colleagues across the council and external stakeholders from across the Active Connected & Prosperous Partnership.
It is expected that this role would be working from Bolton Town Hall (or attending meetings/events in Bolton) for at least half of the working week in line with the Councils Hybrid Working Policy.

About You
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Public Health Specialist to support the Public Health Directorate in developing a progressive public health strategy and public health policy.
The successful candidate will be able to build strong partnerships, engage with local people and communities, and work collaboratively across a range of sectors to deliver place-based population health, and prevention approaches that improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities.
You will support the Strategic Lead for Population Health and Prevention in contributing to the Vision 2030 in shaping approaches, this will include leading on a range of Health Improvement Programmes as required.
You will support the integration agenda by facilitating neighbourhood and place-based networks to co-produce solutions across thematic areas of our business plan (for example climate change, addiction, population mental health, tobacco control, nutrition and weight management). You will also have an active role in providing engagement expertise to the local JSNA programme.
This role will include supporting the development of an evidence based and effective Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the borough; and supporting the wider health/social care integration agenda working closely with partners, elected members and local people.
As a highly motivated public health expert, you will be committed to strategic leadership within the directorate and across Bolton. You will be able to use your communication skills to engage, negotiate with, and influence others at all levels.
You will be able to design, develop, interpret and influence policies and manage resources well. You will use your high-level understanding of community engagement and development, the wider determinants and prevention strategies to inform your decisions and guide you in your commitment to public health principles.
You’ll be self-motivated and innovative whilst also working well within a team and leading by example.
