Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is committed to promoting wellbeing, improving health and tackling inequalities in our communities. As a senior public health officer, you’ll be instrumental in a range of public health programmes.
Your role in our journey
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ambitious, innovative, energetic, friendly and high achieving Public Health team. The team has developed strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, making our work more effective in meeting the needs of our population.

Working in close partnership with colleagues across the council, the NHS and a host of statutory, community and voluntary groups, you will lend your expertise to a range of programmes, all over which contribute to creating a Healthy Barnsley. Crucially, you’ll also help us to develop, deliver and evaluate projects to tackle health inequalities. What’s more, you’ll help us to develop services, commissioning and strategies, and play a key part in needs assessments and service reviews. Your portfolio will be broad ranging and you will have the public health skills and experience to tackle other priorities as they arise.
What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need a relevant degree and experience which meets the role profile.
