Senior Public Health Officer for Substance Misuse

Job description

With significant new investment in substance misuse treatment services an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Public Health Officer.
This opportunity will work as part of the Public Health commissioning team focussing on substance misuse activity including commissioning of services and prevention.

About The Role

It is fast paced, demanding and an inspirational environment to work in. Everyday your creativity, problem-solving skills and experience will be needed to ensure world class treatment and recovery services are commissioned and maintained.

This role will work closely with our commercial team and commissioned providers to ensure performance schedules are met and contracts deliver best practice while offering excellent value for money.

You will be expected to represent substance misuse in Public Health at strategic and tactical meetings at a local, regional and national level offering specialist substance misuse advice and guidance. Building relationships with Local ICS staff, Police, Probation, NHS Trusts, HMP, OHID and service providers is essential and a vital part of building integrated care pathways for services, exploring joint commissioning opportunities and influence partners to commission and develop services that work together, share common goals and truly make a difference to the health and wellbeing of those living in Lincolnshire.

From the start you will have an identified programme manager to work to who will provide guidance and support in your role but tasks may also be undertaken for other public health managers as required. This may include demand management or taking on responsibilities within Public Health as part of the emergency response to events such as the recent pandemic

Some face to face meetings will be required in council and partnership buildings across the county, sometimes at short notice.

About You

Experience is essential for this role, the right candidate will have a passion and drive to help people, if you get this right you can help shape the treatment received across the county enabling front line workers to have the resources and structure they need to truly make a difference.

Substance misuse is a complex and ever-changing topic, you will need to have an excellent knowledge of alcohol and drug treatment, recovery, awareness, guidance and research. Preferably with significant experience working in treatment or recovery services

You must also be able to display;
A positive leadership style with a commitment to achieving high performance, with a drive and enthusiasm for change
A clear commitment and proven ability to deliver high quality outcomes
The ability to negotiate, influence and enthuse colleagues both internally and across partner agencies
A commitment to working in collaboration with partners from all sectors
The ability to successfully deliver results at an operational level
A good knowledge or guidance that governs alcohol and drug treatment services, including national and local drug strategies as well as OHID and NICE guidance and recommendations.
A working knowledge of treatment and recovery services and what works in Lincolnshire
