Hampshire County Council

Senior Public Health Practitioner (Physical Activity and Climate Change)

Job description

This is an exciting time to join our well-established and dynamic Healthy Team where you will be supported to develop your career in Public Health. With our new Hampshire Public Health Strategy focussing on the importance of place making and the wider determinants of health, there hasn’t been a better time for us to integrate public health into spatial planning, transport and healthy housing, in collaboration with our colleagues in Districts and Boroughs. We are passionate about delivering positive outcomes for both health and the environment in our communities.

You’ll develop, advise on and co-deliver programmes of work in areas such as transport, green infrastructure, air quality and active travel, helping us deliver the Climate Change Strategy. You’ll also support our partners to take a public health approach to increasing physical activity levels across the County, with a particular focus on inequalities, capitalising on our strong relationships with council teams, our local active partnership, the NHS and our Districts and Boroughs.

For this role, strong experience of working in a public health role is essential, and you must be educated to a Master's degree level. You’ll have a proven track record of working collaboratively with a number of partners in a multi-agency setting, using your excellent communication and influencing skills to effectively work with others to achieve change. Your innovative and forward thinking approach will enable you to capitalise on new opportunities and initiate transformative ways of working. Your knowledge of public health concepts, combined with your ability to use evidence-based research methods to gather, interpret and present complex data in a meaningful way to a variety of audiences will be key. Experience of working in local government on physical activity, climate change or the wider determinants of health is preferable, though not essential.

In return, we are committed to your continued personal development and offer an extensive Benefits Package . We recognise the benefits hybrid working can bring, so you’ll be able to work remotely (with equipment provided) with office-based working in Winchester once a fortnight.

We are also recruiting for a Senior Public Health Practitioner (Healthy Places) HCC610302, Please see our website for further details and more.

Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this role.
