The post holder will take a public health approach to improve health and tackle inequalities, specifically to raise the level of immunisation uptake across Newham. The Post holder will operationally manage the immunisation programme by providing leadership and support to women and their babies across Newham to improve the uptake of FLU, Pertussis, Covid and BCG (neonates). The role will involve working in partnership with the band 5 nurses in the team and liaising with the other site-based immunisation teams, including community and hospital-based midwives to achieve the NHSE targets. The post holder will work in partnership with service users, the multi-disciplinary team and local stakeholders to improve and protect health and wellbeing, and improve the health of the poorest families (Department of Health 2015) Key work will be to focus upon improving outcomes of women/birthing people by implementing processes to secure a year-on-year increase in uptake of vaccinations. The Specialist Midwife will provide visible leadership and evidence-based information and education to women and their families, and health professionals, in line with Barts health Hospital Trust policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current public health guidance.
